Meet my Brother

Who did you think I was talking about?!

I've recently gotten really interested in sewing and have been using my mom's old Kenmore machine for a little while.  And when I say "old" Kenmore machine... I mean old.  As old as me. I'm not hatin'; that thing is still truckin'.  But it was loud.  And heavy.  And clunked through each stitch.  And it wasn't mine.  So for Christmas I asked my parents for my own machine, and this is what I got.  It's a simple little Brother machine. It has just enough bells and whistles for me to use but not be overwhelmed by.  My favorite part is that it is all electronic.  All you have to do is punch in the number that corresponds to what stitch you want to use, and it tells you what foot you need to stitch it with on it's handy dandy little screen:

And that little fast-forward looking button is your speed control so that you don't sew too fast or too slow, and helps you maintain a constant speed.

It comes programmed with 59 different stictches:
I have no idea when I will need to make a stitch that looks like a vine, but if the opportunity arises, I'm ready!

And one of my most favorite things about my new machine...
... a top-loading bobbin!  This probably shouldn't make a girl squeal, but I love that you can see exactly how much bobbin you have left so that you don't run out in the middle of a project.  Plus it pretty much threads itself.  And it won't get hung up if you sew off of your fabric.

My Brother has helped me make these two quick projects:
A "mug rug." Which is a coaster big enough for a mug of coffee and a muffin- for a no mess breakfast.

A quick ruffle fleece scarf that wound up being SUPER long.  Every time I put it on it makes me think of Ralphie's mom wrapping up his little brother for the walk to school in the movie A Christmas Story. "I can't put my arms down!"  Ha!

Anyway... I love this machine, and highly recommend it to anyone who is thinking of getting one!  It quietly hums along as you sew.  It came with several different feet and accessories, which can be stored in a little compartment just in front of the bobbin holder.
There will be many more projects to come from this thing, so stay tuned!
